Policies

AGE LIMIT

Riders must be at least 6 years of age to participate in a trail ride with CCO Guided Trail Rides. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult. For safety reasons, we sometimes limit the amount of children on each ride who are age 14 or younger.  Please call to find out how we can accommodate a larger group of children.

WEIGHT LIMIT

Our weight limit is 280 lbs. Imposing a weight restriction on riders is not a matter of prejudice against people over this weight limit. It’s a matter of safety, and in the case of horses and riders, it’s also a matter of the soundness and health of the horses involved. Extra lbs., especially if unbalanced, can make a huge difference to the horse. Every pound that is added to a horse puts strain on a horse’s back. Too much weight can cause rub-sores from the saddle, strained muscles, and pinching of nerves. Permanent damage can even occur over time. A horse that is child-safe, bomb-proof, and completely docile under normal conditions may become agitated, frustrated, fatigued, irritable, and even unpredictable when over-stressed by a heavy rider. Please email us with any questions/concerns, and we will try to accommodate you or your party as much as possible.

RESERVATIONS

Payment is due in full upon reservation booking.

CANCELLATIONS

Should you need to cancel your ride for any reason, please notify us via phoneemail, or Facebook message NO LESS THAN 48 hours before your scheduled ride time for a full refund (for individual riders). For any cancellations within 48 hours before your ride time or any no-shows, payment is non-refundable. Large group rides need to be a week’s notice prior to the ride date.

INCLEMENT WEATHER

We do ride rain or shine, most of the time.  However, should fire, flooding, lightning, or other acts of nature be a concern, we reserve the right to cancel or reschedule your ride.  In the event of inclement weather that requires cancellation or rescheduling, we will notify you via phone. We also cancel rides for a heat index registering above 150, and during winter, temperatures being below 25 degrees. During fire season, we monitor the air quality for our region and cancel rides for air quality index registering 101 or above.

MEDICAL CONDITIONS

Please notify us prior to your scheduled trial ride of any medical conditions, allergies, disabilities, etc. that we need to be aware of.  Our main priority is keeping you safe while on the trail so you can have the best time possible.  Knowing of any medical conditions, special needs, etc. assists us in doing just that.

SPECIAL NEEDS

In order to participate in the trail ride, you must be able to physically get on your assigned horse by yourself. We do offer mounting blocks and will assist for safety. Let us know, in advance if you or any member of your group have any balance or strength issues. We will try our very best to help you through these issues, but please note that we are not certified therapeutic riding instructors nor are our horses accustomed to or trained as therapeutic riding horses. Also, our locations are very primitive and not currently equipped to handle some special needs. If your needs are beyond what our staff and location can accommodate, we will gladly assist you in locating a suitable therapeutic riding provider.

EXPECTANT MOTHERS

We do not allow expectant mothers to ride.

RIDING HELMETS

We provide ASTM/STI certified riding helmets for all guests to wear and we do recommend everyone wear a helmet when on horseback.  If a guest is under the age of 18, it is mandatory to wear a helmet while on one of our rides.  If you are 18 or older and choose not to wear a helmet, you must sign and initial on our release form that you decline to wear a helmet.
